Inner Path is devoted to supporting the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and at this time is holding classes for anyone who identifies as as a member under that banner. Together we can work towards a strong loving place for everyone to exist and be whoever they are and to feel safe doing so.
Wing chun is a relatively young kung fu style designed as a cohesive system with a reliance on structure and relaxation instead of muscular strength. Wing chun is not just about being able to perform a list of forms and techniques, it is also about learning the concepts that act as the foundation for the art and allow those techniques to function as intended.
While there are forms and drills that can be practiced solo, we place a heavy focus on partnered training to train our tactile senses and responses. The majority of class time is spent training hands on with each other with intensity gradually increasing as we improve.
Concepts, often referred to as “kuen kuit” are an integral component of our kung fu and are regularly referenced to assist us in our understanding and improvement in the art.
There are no gradings or belts to be earned, All students train with, and help, each other regardless of experience or ability. Students grow in different skills at different rates and this is used to help guide students on their individual journeys while also providing them the opportunity to learn from one another.
Mars has been involved in martial arts for the majority of their life, having been enrolled in karate for over a decade prior to meeting their current sifu, Dave Harris in 2012. They have a great fondness for training their kung fu and a love of sharing and passing on the art.
With a background in pedagogy, Mars’ approach is to steer learning based on a student-lead philosophy. This means that lessons reflect areas of the art individual students are currently working and that different students will be training different components based on their own development.
FREE meetups are currently being held weekly in Chestermere and Southeast Calgary.
Inner Path is currently seeking out a location for holding long-term regular classes.
Private, and semi-private lessons are available and can still be scheduled (with a location to be agreed upon) by contacting Mars @ innerpath.wingchun@gmail.com
